Getting Help to the Front Line
Luke 22:39-46: David Thomas (03.02.08) - 8:30, 9:45, 11:15 & 5:15

This is where the battle is won.

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. Luke 22:39

Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. I Peter 2:11

Some battles call for a fight. So pray.

On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." ... When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. "Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation." Luke 22:40 and 45

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. I John 2:16 [KJV]

I John 2:16"lust of the flesh""lust of the eyes""pride of life"

Genesis 3:6"good for food""pleasing to the eye""desirable for gaining wisdom"
Luke 4:3, 5, and 9"tell this stone to become bread""it will all be yours""throw yourself down from here"

Some battles require a surrender. So pray.

He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Luke 22:41-44

"Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat-I am." Luke 9:23 [The Message]

This is where help to the front line comes from.

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. John 6:53-55
