Lay Pastors Ministry FAQ

What is Lay Pastors Ministry?

Simply put, it is a ministry made up of everyday men and women who have recognized God's call to love and care for one another. It is Centenary members just like YOU providing authentic pastoral care to other members of our church family.

Why do we need this ministry? I thought that was the job of the pastoral staff?

Although our pastoral staff continues to give care to our members whenever needed, God's Word calls every member of the church to be involved in the ministry of building up the body of Christ. This is particularly important in a church the size of Centenary. God gifts lay persons to be pastors too! The Scripture references below can help you understand if Lay Pastors Ministry fits your God-given SHAPE for ministry!

Being a Lay Pastor sounds like something that I can do. Where does this Ministry take place?

While some of your ministry will take place at Centenary, it will develop most naturally through the building of caring one-on-one relationships in day-to-day life. Since the ministry involves sharing God's love through relationships, the "where" is not the focus.

OK, that sounds easy enough. When can I get started?

The Lay Pastors Ministry Team has just completed an Equipping Seminar, and expects to schedule another one this fall. This event is designed to train you to love and care for others through encouraging notes, phone calls, personal visits and prayer. Childcare will be available. Please indicate on the Response Form below if you are interested in attending the next Equipping Seminar.

I think this is something I would like to do. How can I learn more?
