The Season of Yummy

December 4, 2009

Is it possible to think of Christmas without thinking of food? Many of us are already anticipating a "season of dieting" in January, based on our plans for December!

If you read through the life of Jesus, you will find an assortment of stories relating to food and drink. His first miracle was the changing of water into wine. The details of Jesus' last supper were an important part of His Life Story. After Jesus' resurrection, we find Him on the beach waiting for His Disciples to come back from fishing. Guess what He was doing ... He was cooking them breakfast!

At Jesus' last supper with His Disciples, He did a curious thing. He took bread, thanked the Lord for it and then offered it to those He loved. He compared the bread to Himself and asked that when His Disciples ate bread in the future, they do so in His Memory.

The best way we can remember Jesus is with our lives, allowing Him to take us and mix us and mold us and test us in the fires of life ... and then finally, having been fashioned to be like Him, allowing Him to give us as His Gift to the world. In fact, we are the ingredients of Jesus' Divine Bread.

What was Jesus saying in giving His example of bread? "I am willing to give everything I have for you. My primary purpose in coming was to feed you spiritually and show you how to feed others. There is a world of spiritually hungry people out there. The best way to remember Me is to feed them, as I have fed you."

As you enjoy the treats of the holiday season, eat with joy, and with each bite, celebrate the Gift Jesus has given us. And pass it on!

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My Body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
Luke 22:19

Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You. Jesus said, "Feed My Sheep."
John 21:17

P.S. Perhaps the best diet ever is the one in which we truly stop and remember Jesus and talk to Him before we put anything in our mouth!
