Room in the Inn

Each Novermber to March, Centenary opens its doors and hearts to Lexington’s homeless community through the citywide ministry, Room in the Inn (RITI). Centenary is one of over 30 congregations of all denominations who provide housing throughout the week by welcoming registered homeless men to our facilities. Centenary is a founding church for this program.

Centenary provides shelter for a maximum of 15 guests each Thursday night. In addition to a safe, warm place for the guests to sleep, Centenary members prepare a hot evening meal, breakfast the next morning, and a sack lunch for the day. Transportation to and from the church is also provided.

RITI doesn't aspire to any particular formula or goal for participants, other than giving them the hope of Jesus through unconditional love so they can make better life choices for themselves. The ministry is designed to treat homeless men with respect and dignity so they can realize their worth from God’s perspective. Several of the men who have been part of RITI have gone on to acquire jobs and move into their own residences. Others have entered into treatment programs, and others have reunited with family members.

Weekly needs include:
  • help with meals
  • set up
  • bus drivers
  • laundry helpers
  • overnight hosts
  • And financial gifts are always welcome!
